Notable Events

We began the Academic year 2007-08 with the principal giving an orientation programme for the teachers in which he highlighted the theme for the year ‘Unity and Progress’.

  • On the 31st of July we celebrated the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Fr. Bertie Rozario, the Provincial of Pune province was the main celebrant of the Eucharist. Inter class competitions were held and gifts were distributed to all the students.
  • The school participated in the celebration of 60 years of Independence with gusto. As a part of this celebration our students marched with the teachers and gathered near Vasudev Balwant Phadke statue on 9th August to celebrate Kranti Din.
  • On 14th of August our students participated in the midnight celebrations of the Independence Day. Two freedom fighters were honoured as part of the celebration.
  • On 5th Sept. our dedicated teachers were honoured as a part of the Teachers Day celebrations.
  • Our students also participated in the patriotic song competition organized by the youth of St. Anthony’s Parish, Shivajinagar and won the first prize.
  • Children’s day was celebrated in a unique way. The PTA helped in organizing a fun-filled morning for all students. The primary section had relays organized.
  • On 16th of Dec. 2006 our Primary school had their sports day. Fr. Mario Fernandes was the chief guest and on the 21st Dec. the secondary school and the Junior college celebrated their sports day. Dr. Narayana Nimkar was the chief guest and Mr. Vivek Nagul gave away the prizes.
  • Our ex-students body ELAN organized a re-union of ex-students and ex-teachers, to keep the memory of their school alive and to offer personal help, if needed, for the institution.
  • On Republic Day we had the installation ceremony of the head boy and commanders of the four houses.

On the academic front the staff members were very busy attending in-service training programmes. Mr. Shashidharan Nair and Mr. V. Hari were the resource persons for the in-service programme organized all over Maharashtra by the Higher Secondary Board, Pune.

Mrs. Anita Pal and Mrs. Malliga Pathan attended a 2 day seminar held at Navasadhana on Inter-religious Peace dialogue.

  • Our school provided financial aid of Rs. One lakh sixty seven thousand to Labdewadi, a remote village in Ahmednagar District.
  • The school took a different initiative this year by organizing outreach programmes for our less privileged brethren. This fostered a spirit of unity and goodwill among our students.
  • As is the practice every year, even in this academic year our students from standards IX, X, XI, XII attended a special orientation to gain psycho-spiritual guidance.
  • Our Catholic boys from Std. VIII to XII went to St. Andrew’s High School Chinchwad, for a recollection and also visited Ashakiran, the AIDS centre.
  • Mr. Venkatrao Hari was selected for the Advanced Educators Training. We are proud to mention that only two teachers from India were selected for the same, and Mr. Hari was one of them. The training was held in Kennedy Space Centre, Florida and the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre, Huntsville, Alabama.
  • Ms. Philomena Monteiro was selected for a training programme for maths and science teachers that was held at the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre, Huntsville, Alabama. This programme was sponsored by Honeywell for teachers and was held from 18th to the 25th of June 2007. In this particular group only 5 teachers from India were selected.
  • Mrs. Shubhra Shrivastava was the proud recipient of this year’s BOLT Award instituted by Air India and Maharashtra Herald to recognize excellence outside the field of academics. She went to Singapore as an ambassador.
  • Master Kanad Saha was awarded a Diploma certificate at the international competition called ‘First Step to Nobel Prize in Physics’ organized by the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw. He has also submitted a research paper to the Indian Association of Physics Teacher’s bulletin.
