Principal's Message

On behalf of the Management, staff and students I extend warm and peace filled greetings to all of you.

I would like to share with you a few reflections in the context of the Jesuit Society and their manifold work across the globe. We just commemorated the 450th anniversary of the death of St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus and also the patron of this institution. Born in the Castle of Loyola in 1491, Ignatius cherished the virtues of chivalry and honour as a young man. After being wounded in battle he went through a conversion during his recuperation. To make this world a better place to live in was his aim and in due course, he gathered around him a band of men burning with the same zeal. The legacy he started is continued through the centuries by his committed followers, the Jesuits.

The Jesuits are a body of men both priests and brothers, involved in a variety of missions with pioneering energy and enduring vision. Today the Society numbers over nineteen thousand men working in about 112 countries around the world.

The Society provides both formal and non-formal education. In India, the Jesuits run more than 125 secondary and 54 primary schools, along with universities, colleges, teacher training institutes, management institutes and various non-formal institutes.

With a passion for the service of humanity and promotion of justice, the Jesuits venture wherever there is great need. Guided by the values of the Gospel, and the inspiration of the founder St. Ignatius of Loyola, they reach out to all sections of society, in a spirit of love and service, to build a just world.

At Loyola High School & Junior College, we aim to bring about all round development in intellectual, personal, social and spiritual aspects of every student. We are aware that today the world needs men and women of character and courage. We are striving very hard - with help from you, dear parents - to continue to shape our young boys into fearless global citizens. Truly, men for others.

The academic year 2007-08 was an eventful year filled with new and rich experiences. Loyola continues to live up to its name.

Lord Tennyson said
"The older order changeth, yielding place to new,
And God fulfils himself in many ways".

It was indeed an honour for me to be offered the Principalship of this esteemed institution. In all humility I have accepted the Will of God. It is with sincere gratitude that I acknowledge the contributions made by Mrs Fatima Oliver, the former Principal. She has always been a pillar of strength and moral support to the staff and students.

Fr Ovid Pereira, the former Supervisor, has always been a dedicated teacher and supervisor par excellence. We sincerely thank him for his services.

I would like to thank Mr Venkatrao Hari, Mrs Prabha Venkatakrishnan, Ms Usha Ohal and Ms Pramodini Potdar for their dedicated service.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our manager Fr. Anil Soares and Loyola House Fathers' Community for their continual support and guidance in running the school more efficiently.

I take this opportunity to thank Mr Shashidharan Nair, our Vice-Principal, and Mrs Rosie Fernandes, the Primary Supervisor, for their support.

You, staff members, are my strength and the co-operation and support that I receive from you, and all the parents, bring out the best in me. Together we can fulfill our dream of a clean and green Loyola: clean in word, deed and action, and green in mind, heart and soul, closer to nature and to the Almighty. Your child is uppermost in our mind and of prime importance. Come, let’s join hands together as we journey along the path of discipline, honesty, self-sacrifice and obedience. Let us inculcate the same values in our children making them better citizens of our great Motherland.

Always there at your service and wishing you God's choicest blessings now and at all times.

Fr. James Thorat, S.J.
